Toronto Summer Heat Warning

Posted by Nicholas Searle ot 04:51 PM

An extreme heat situation is in effect for Toronto & the GTA.

The average high for Toronto this time of year is about 25.8°C. However today and tomorrow’s daytime highs are forecast to reach 34°C with humidex values of 42°C. The highest temperature recorded on this day between 1938 & 2012 was 35.6°C in 1963. It will be cooler near Lake Ontario.

Extreme heat affects everyone.

Never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle. The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Watch for the effects of heat illness:

These effects are swelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke and the worsening of some health conditions.

Heat stroke is a medical emergency. If you feel dizzy or disoriented seek medical attention.
Call 911 or your local emergency number. If someone has a high temperature and is unconscious or confused or has stopped sweating. Cool the person right away.

Stay Hydrated & Stay Cool:

Its a good time to make some lime refreshers with lots of ice. Here is a great recipe for "Maple Syrup Lime-onade":

Per Glass:

2 Table Spoons of Canadian Maple Syrup

2 Freshly Squeezed Limes (Large)

Ice

Water

A Couch or Shady spot to sit and relax

Instructions:

Hand Squeeze the Limes into a glass. Add in the Maple Syrup. Stir until disolved. Add ice and water to taste.

Enjoy on a couch or cool shady spot!
